Welcome!
Located in Bergen
County, NJ, the The Bergen Dance Center is the only area dance
school that is run by an active, professional dancer. Heide Stiel
is currently a professional dancer and choreographer, and has been
the director of the school since its inception. While some
area schools promote occasional guest workshops with professional
teachers, the Bergen Dance Center has every class taught by a New
York Professional Dancer.
Our philosophy is just because a student
will not be a professional dancer some day, is no excuse for not
learning from the best. We have absolutely no students teaching the
smaller kids. We have students three years old, and we have students
that are in their fifties…but they all are taught by New York
Professional Dancers/Teachers.

Our first year is Montville was a huge success. It has been a
dream of ours to open our school in Montville. This past year
the dream became a reality. Thank you all for your support. Our
first year exceeded all of our expectations. Not long after the
school opened in the fall, we were contacted to be part of a
Commercial Exhibition. This past December a select few of our
dancers performed with Mrs. Heide at the Clinton Inn for a
lovely Holiday Celebration. The event was sponsored by Gorlan
Pools & Spa’s. A crowd of nearly 300 watched as “Heide and
Company” put on a wonderful Holiday Show. Many of our parents
were able to witness the performance. This opened their eyes for
what to expect out of Mrs. Heide and the Bergen Dance Center.
Mrs. Heide is always full of surprises. She holds a B.S. Degree
in Human Services/ Dance Therapy from S.U.N.Y. In addition to
her dancing, choreography, and acting; Heide has used this
training to manage programs for developmentally disabled and
autistic children. This past spring the Bergen Dance Center
became involved with Montville’s “Pathways for Exceptional
Children.” Heide ran two programs for Pathways, sponsored by the
Montville Township Recreation Department, titled “Moving
Experiences” and “Dance Like the Stars.” Pathways stresses a
“Mentor” Program which encourages volunteers to work with these
children with special needs. The unique part of this program for
Heide was the opportunity to not only work with these special
children; but their mentors, as well. The response from the
families was phenomenal.
This past June we were booked for another Commercial
Performance. This time the Dancers of the Bergen Dance Center
performed in a huge event sponsored by the Archdiocese of
Paterson. Our dancers were the featured entertainment at a
Formal Retirement Dinner held at the Regency House. Once again
many of the parents were invited along to see the show. A crowd
of nearly 200 people were treated to our performance. This
performance not only exposed the Bergen Dance Center to a large
audience that had not been familiar with us; but it has given
our dancers the experience of performing in front of a large
audience.
June 30, 2007 was our annual recital. This capped off a year of
excitement and hard work for everyone. The show had everything:
Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Gymnastics, and Irish Step Dancing. The crowd
favorite was clearly 2 ½ year old Paige Fitzgerald who performed
a duet with Mrs. Heide titled, “Daisy, Daisy-A Bicycle Built for
Two.” The show also featured an Irish Step Dance Performance by
Niall O’Leary TCRG, ADCRG. (www.nialloleary.com) Mr. O’Leary is
a former All Ireland, as well as a former World Champion. He
owns the largest School of Irish Dance in New York City, and we
are very fortunate to have him at our little school in
Montville.
The show was capped of by Mrs. Heide, herself; as she performed
“Keep Holding On,” with her partner Curtis Etherege. The show
ended in just over two hours with the entire Bergen Dance Center
taking their well earned Final Bows to “Grand Hotel,” in front
of a cheering and screaming audience. Thank you for making our
first year in Montville a success. We look forward to many more
in the future.
